The Józef Marcinkiewicz Centenary Conference

First Announcement

We kindly inform that the international meeting The Józef Marcinkiewicz Centenary Conferen- ce will be held in Poznań, Poland from June 28 till July 2, 2010. The conference has two aims: to commemorate one of the most distinguished Polish mathematicians, Józef Marcinkiewicz, and to discuss contemporary mathematical research related to his scientific interests. The topics of the conference will be realized in six sections:

  • Interpolation of spaces and operators – coordinator: M. Mastyło (A. Mickiewicz University, Poznań)
  • Singular operators – coordinator: T. Figiel (Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences)
  • Fourier series and approximation by polynomials – coordinator: W. Pleśniak (Jagiellonian University, Kraków)
  • Systems of orthogonal functions – coordinator: A. Paszkiewicz (University of Lodz)
  • Probability theory – coordinator: T. Byczkowski (Wrocław University of Technology)
  • Historical section – coordinator: L. Maligranda (Lulea University of Technology)

The scientific programme will consist of fourteen 50-minute plenary lectures presented by the following speakers:

  • Bernard Roynette (Universite Henri Poincare Nancy) and Marc Yor (Universite Paris VI et VII, Institut Universitaire de France) -- joint lecture

The participants are invited to present 25-minute short talks.

The conference web site is at www.jm100.amu.edu.pl where you can registrate (April 30, 2010 is the last day for the registration), submit the title and the abstract of the talk (the title as well as the abstract has to be sent to the organizers before April 30, 2010). A participant should indicate the section where his (her) talk will be delivered.

The conference fee, paid before April 15, is 150 euros for participants from abroad and 400 PLN for participants from Poland (from April 16 till the 28th May, the deadline for payment, the conference fee is 200 euros and 500 PLN, respectively). The conference fee covers conference materials, coffee breaks, five lunches June 28–July 2, the excursion and the social dinner. Accompanying persons must also register and pay half the conference fee. The payment will have to be made through a money transfer to the following account:

Bank commissions has to be covered by the participant (please, check it). After you ha- ve made the bank transfer, please scan the receipt and send it by e-mail to jm100@amu.edu.pl. The accommodation will be offered, in a single room, in the student hostels Zbyszko and Jowita located in the center of the city. The place of the conference meetings can be easily reached by public means of transport (the whole trip takes 15 minutes by tram plus a 10 minutes walk). Approximate price of a room is 25 euros (Zbyszko) and 40 euros (Jowita) per day (including breakfast). The due, in Polish currency, should be paid at the hostel reception. The arrival day is Sunday, June 27, and the departure day is Saturday, July 3, 2010. The number of available rooms in the hostel is limited, hence room reservation will follow registration order. The hotels Mercure and Novotel Centrum, located in the center of the city, offers a special price for the participants of the conference (85 and 65 euros respectively) - booking a room please refer to your participation in the conference.

Unfortunately the organizers have no possibilities to offer any financial support for young mathematicians and students.
